How to Drone Fishing
Release & Drop Device
The Drone-Sky-Hook Release & Drop device is mounted on your DJI Drone and provides you with the ability to do bait casting, bait release or bait dropping using your drone. With this device your drone can pull your fishing line, lure, bait and hooks into the ocean and drop them into the water upon your command. Drone Fishing has never been so easy!
Fail-Safe Cords
We strongly recommend that you use the Drone-Sky-Hook Fail-Safe Drop Cord or Fail-Safe Trolling Drop Cord during Drone Fishing. Both cords work with Drone-Sky-Hook Release & Drop devices and automatically disconnect the fishing line from your drone when the fishing line gets tangled in the reel or caught in seaweeds, rocks, seagulls, birds or another object in the water. These Fail-Safe cords can save your drone from crashing into the water.
Low Visibility and Night Fishing
Use the Drone-Sky-Hook Searchlight during low visibility condition and night fishing. The Searchlight enhances the visibility/orientation of your drone and also attracts fish. It mounts on your drone and can be switched On or Off remotely from your drone’s remote controller (or by simply rotating the drone). The Searchlight operates ONLY with Drone-Sky-Hook Release & Drop PLUS devices. It will not operate with Release & Drop devices that do not have the PLUS feature.
Drone Fishing Steps

Verify that your DJI App is up to date and you have the latest DJI software and firmware updates for your drone, remote controller and battery.

Follow installation instructions and videos to quickly mount the Drone-Sky-Hook Release & Drop device, Release & Drop PLUS device and Searchlight on your drone. No tools needed.

With the drone’s propellers disconnected, turn On the Release & Drop device and your drone. View the operation videos of the Release & Drop device, Release & Drop PLUS device and Searchlight to get yourself familiar with their operation BEFORE you go drone fishing.

Fully charge the Release & Drop device battery using the provided, standard USB cord. Fully charge the drone battery(s), remote controller and display (your phone, iPad or other display).

When you are ready for Drone Fishing, turn On the Release & Drop device. Turn On your drone, remote controller and display. Take off and safely hover near your fishing rod. Fly safe, away from people and objects.

Take your Rig Setup and slide the Fail-Safe Drop cord ring on the drop wheel of the Release & Drop device. Verify that your Rig Setup fishing line, Bate, Lure and Fail-Safe Drop cord are not tangled with anything and lay flat on the ground.

Unlock your fishing rod reel. Prevent fast unspooling of fishing line and line tangles on the reel by applying gentle pressure with your finger on the fishing line at the reel. Ascend your drone until your Rig Setup is above the ground and water. Safely fly your drone towards the fishing area, pulling the fishing line behind it. Adjust your drone speed as required.

Search for fish in the water by pointing the drone’s camera down and looking for fish on your display. Use any of the following methods to Release and Drop the fishing line into the water:

Apply 2 consecutive presses to C1/C2 button on the remote controller or
-
Quickly rotate (yaw) your drone counter-clockwise (left rotation) 2 full rotations or
-
Use the Drop-Timer method if your Release & Drop device equipped with this feature.

The Searchlight can be turned On or Off by applying 3 consecutive presses to C1/C2 button on the remote controller or by quickly rotating (yawing) your drone clockwise (right rotation) 2 full rotations. The Searchlight operates ONLY with Drone-Sky-Hook Release & Drop PLUS devices.

Bring the drone back to you by pressing the Return-To-Home (RTH) button on the remote controller or fly it back manually. Do not use the Return-To-Home (RTH) feature if you are fishing from a boat that continuously moves as your drone will land in the water!
Important Notes:

Avoid putting your drone at risk of crashing into the water! Your drone is not a fishing kit or balloon. Keep your expensive drone safe and never attach lure or Bait, fishing line or hooks directly to it without a release device.

We recommend that you attach the fishing line to the drop wheel of the Drone-Sky-Hook Release & Drop device via a Fail-Safe Drop Cord or Fail-Safe Trolling Drop Cord that automatically disconnect the fishing line from your drone when the fishing line gets tangled in the reel or caught in seaweeds, rocks, seagulls, birds or another object in the water. These Fail-Safe cords can save your drone from crashing into the water.

Carrying heavy bait, lure and fishing line will drain the drone’s battery faster and reduce your flight time and distance. Reduce the total weight of the bait, lure and fishing line during windy conditions. Do not fly in strong winds and fly safe, away from people, animals, and objects.
